Foreign policy of Turkmenistan that is being realized under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov characterized by the further expansion of the degree and extent of participation of the Turkmen state in international affairs. The dynamics of this process is in many respects determined by Turkmenistan's active putting forward of the international initiatives aimed at solving the important problems of present: to maintain peace and security, sustainable development and socio-economic well-being of regions, countries and peoples.

Statement made by observers of the Commonwealth of Independent States on results of monitoring of the election campaign and election of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. On Turkmenistan's invitation, the mission of CIS observers (further referred to as the mission) observed the election campaign and election of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan held on 14 December 2008.
